Can’t sleep because there’s too much on your mind ? Use this no-cost, easy technique to calm your overactive mind.

It’s not journaling.

It’s a body technique that I learned (and adapted) from Dr. Joe Dispenza’s book Becoming Supernatural. The technique calms your analytical brain so that you can fall asleep.

The technique compresses the pineal gland in your brain.

The compression causes the gland to create a version of melatonin (benzodiazepine) that sedates your mind as well as your body.

Benzodiazepine is what class of drugs Valium is in; this technique produces benzodiazepine naturally.

How to compress your pineal gland:

  • Lay on your side, curl your back slightly and tuck your chin in
  • Take a breath in (through your nose, preferably)
  • Hold your breath
  • Contract your core muscles starting from the base of your spine, working your way up to your head
  • Hold the entire contraction for up to 10 seconds
  • Exhale
  • Repeat as many times as you need

This technique never fails me. I use it at bedtime but I will also use it during the day if I am feeling stressed. I usually end up taking a little nap but not always.

It always lowers my stress levels.

To me, it feels as though I am floating out into space. I feel profound peace.
